		<description>Forcing yourself to sleep when you are not willing is a terrible dilemma. I used to toss and turn only getting more upset at my inability to fall asleep. I&#039;ve written a few posts on sleeping and the best technique for me is meditating. I lay in bed and focus on my breath, just enjoying the moment. If I&#039;m tired I fall asleep. If not then at least I&#039;m relaxed and enjoying the thoughts that pass through my head.

Just read some interesting research into sleep patterns before there was electic lighting.  We&#039;ve changed a fair bit since then in terms of our rhythms.  I blogged about it at my site but basically, people often used to have 2 sleeps during a night... And, this may be part of the cause for sleep issues in some people.
