There is a growing problem which is a world-wide epidemic. The issue is with what we eat and how we eat it. Unfortunately, the whole “healthy living” fad was just that, a passing trend. In order to improve our lives, we must address the difficult issues which negatively impact us on a daily basis. One of these issues is motivation and the other issue is food.

Getting Motivated

Making a change is never easy; in general, people are not too fond of change. Usually change comes as a result of a negative experience: an unhappy relationship, the loss of a job, frightening results from a medical test, and so on. What people need to understand is that not all change is bad! Sometimes, making a difficult change and seeing it through can really boost our morale and improve self-esteem and self-confidence. The first step in making change is to decide which area of your life you would like to improve. If you sit down and make a list of all the things you wish you were able to do better, you may see a common link between them. Many times, people want to do things which are indirectly related to their diets. Whether you want to go on vacation but feel uncomfortable or want to go hiking or play with your grandkids but don’t feel like you have any energy, you can trace those feelings back to general wellness. This, in turn, is directly affected by your diet.

Making the Change

Once you are aware of your eating behaviors, you will easily be able to see where you can make changes to improve your diet and start eating healthy. Many people say that they already eat healthy foods but cannot seem to shed pounds or feel energized. The easiest and most straight-forward way to address this common argument is to keep a food diary for one week. During this trial, keep a log of exactly what you put into your mouth; both solid and liquid. Don’t forget a single bite. Keep track of the amount, as well. After one week, take the food diary to your doctors or dietitians office and look at it together. There will almost certainly be questionable foods and drinks present which are standing in the way of your healthy lifestyle. Many people do not realize how often they snack on random foods or how often they open a can of beer or soda.

Eating More and Eating Less

One of the biggest culprits of obesity is not what we are eating, but how much we are eating. No, there are no shortages of delicious fried and fast foods to indulge in. No, you should not completely deprive yourself of the foods that you are accustomed to eating because you will likely fail if you go cold turkey. However, the key to success is to limit (drastically) your intake of these taboo foods. If you like to eat cheesecake three times a week, change it to three bites, once a week. If your family goes out to a burger joint, rather than having two double cheeseburgers for dinner with a side of fries, make it a single burger (no mayo) and a handful of your buddies fries. On the contrary, if you are not an avid vegetable eater, you need to change your ways! Vegetables are delicious and high in fiber which means they are healthy and filling! Many people think they don’t like veggies but they haven’t really tried them. There are lots of ways to prepare cooked and raw vegetables which are nutritious and delicious! If your main dietary staple consists of vegetables, you can eat more; almost as much as you’d possibly want!

The End Results

The benefits which you will receive when changing to a healthy diet are immense. Not only will you shed pounds; you will feel energized, healthy, and proud of yourself for being responsible for your well-being! The benefits are even more profound if you have children or grandchildren. When you cook, you will be offering them a healthy meal and healthy snacks. This will set an example for them and give them a great start at living a healthy lifestyle filled with great food choices!

Starting an exercise program can be painfully difficult for many people. Just the thought of 30 minutes of continuous movement will make some couch-potatoes break into a sweat! I have some good news for those of you who think that a good work-out consists of parking more than one space away from the entrance! Exercise doesn’t have to be work! Losing weight and getting a healthy heart and lungs can be fun, exciting, and a great way to spend quality family time together. There are lots of great ways to motivate yourself to exercise:

- Heart or Health problems require exercise
- Lack of energy or feelings of fatigue require exercise
- Being overweight requires exercise
- Setting a goal to fit into something requires exercise
- Helping a loved one to achieve a goal
- Looking for a way to reconnect with kids
- Setting personal, daily or monthly goals of weight loss

These are all fabulous and common reasons which people use to motivate themselves to achieve a more active lifestyle. Incorporating regular exercise into your daily routine is a crucial step in becoming healthy and fit. You can diet all you want and eat several servings of veggies, but there is no substitute for exercise!

Getting Motivated

Once you are clear about your reasons for wanting to adopt an active lifestyle, it will be easier to set forth a plan and make goals for yourself. There are many different reasons why people realize they need to make a change in diet and exercise and these reasons can drastically affect the exercise regimen. If you will be exercising in order to lose a large amount of weight or to overcome a medical concern, be sure to share your thoughts and your exercise plan with your doctor before beginning.

Making the Change

People who are obese and want to lose weight often have a difficult time because they get fatigued and frustrated when they don’t have instant weight-loss results. To these people I want to stress the importance of patience. Most likely, it took a long time to reach the state which you are in; you didn’t gain the weight overnight. The bad news is that it won’t come off overnight, either. The good news is that it probably won’t take as long to shed the pounds as it did to pack them on. If you truly want to regain your self-confidence and feel healthy and energized again, you can adopt a strict diet and exercise plan. You can work vigorously each and every day until you reach your goal weight. This is hard work, but if you want it bad enough, you can do it. All you need is a plan and willpower. Even if you have health problems and can do nothing more than walk, you can achieve your goal! Walking is the number one way to lose weight!

People who are ill, elderly, or have a sedentary lifestyle and want to become more active do not usually have the same obstacles to overcome as those who are exercising for weight-loss. Many times, these people have mobility issues, respiratory issues, or motivational issues. To these people I want to stress the importance of perseverance and sensibility. Taking the step to change your life through exercise is a great decision. However, if your body is telling you to slow down or to stop, then do it. Sometimes people who have a renewed sense of energy or motivation tend to push themselves, even if they have medical issues or physical limitations. It’s never a bad thing to exercise but it is possible to overdo it and this will only cause a set-back while you heal, which may, in turn, cause you to re-think your lifestyle change and to become sedentary again. This is a circle in which many people with the fore mentioned issues become trapped in. By incorporating exercise into your life at a slow and steady rate, you will most likely avoid these issues and continue on toward your healthy living goal!

The End Results

The benefits which you will receive when incorporating exercise into your life will thrill and amaze you. Once you feel the rush of energy and start to see and feel the results of your hard work, you will be hooked by the intoxicating effects of exercise. Seeing the inches melt away from your waist-line, feeling the strength of your open lungs, and knowing that you are helping others who exercise with you to become strong and healthy is the most empowering feeling of all.

There is one sure fire way to not get the results you are looking for when you are trying to motivate others, and that’s by using threats. Now consequences on the other hand seem to work wonders. If you can make someone aware of the negative consequences involved with a choice or decision that has to be made, you can have a huge impact on their decision making process.

If you are looking for some techniques to motivate others – and this can work from anything from your spouse and kids to your coworkers and employees – here are some of my personal favourites.

Pleasure: providing some type of pleasurable reward or outcome will go far in motivating people to get things done. This could also include giving performance incentives. Think for a moment how much more you may try at work if you were told you were going to win a nice prize for coming out on top.

Kindness: this is actually something that is very powerful. I’m sure you have heard your mother say that you can catch more bees with honey than with vinegar. The same is true when it comes to motivating people. If you are trying to get your husband to help more around the house, do you think you are likely to get the help you desire if you are barking orders at him? But, if you tell him how much you appreciate all he does around the house to help out, you may find him in a much more agreeable mood if you ask for a little extra help.

Recognition and respect: When you recognize someone for their efforts (see the point about) you are able to raise that person to a much higher level. In a work setting, it’s important to recognize people both one-on-one and in a group setting. Did you know that more people leave their jobs because they feel unappreciated and under valued by their bosses and the company’s they work for? At home, what do you think would happen if, at the next family gathering or night with friends, you just happened to mention to everyone how great a cook your wife was; or you told everyone how great your child did at school?

So I bet now you’re thinking – okay, great. I can motivate my spouse, my kids, and everyone around me. But who is going to motivate ME? Here are some guidelines to help you keep your motivation in line especially with those things that are not necessarily your favourite activities.

Start by doing less. Don’t bite off more than you can possibly chew because when you do, and you realize you are in too far, you may lose the motivation you have to keep moving forward. Things that are done in bite sized chunks are much easier to keep on track.

Not surprisingly, the company that you keep plays a big role as well. If you surround yourself by people who are always discouraged, they will start to rub off on you.

Don’t over analyze your situation. Sometimes I put so much into preparing for something, that I lack the motivation to actually DO what I’ve been planning on doing. Think like Nike does: Just do it!

Keep a tracking chart of your progress. Once you start seeing visual results of your project, you’ll want to keep on trucking to get to the end.

Motivation is almost like a cycle, sometimes you’ll be motivated and others you’ll won’t. • Start simple and small and work onto bigger things.

• Never stop learning, the more you learn the more confident you’ll become.

• Understanding yourself is a big part of being able to self-motivate yourself.

• Try to keep constant tracking of your development and accomplishments.

• Last but not least you should try to help friends and family when they face obstacles and difficulties in their lives.

When you’re around self-motivated individuals you’ll find it a lot easier to stay motivated yourself throughout the most difficult of times. They will be there to help you out and assist you in getting motivated when you’re having trouble which can help out a lot during certain difficult situations.

You need to do your hardest to remain motivated in your life so try working on the simple steps above to help you in your life. Don’t become overwhelmed with the steps and take them one at a time if you need too just make sure you do work on achieving the steps to becoming self-motivated.

I find the most important step to work on is #5 on the list, once you begin getting down to business you’ll usually build up a head of steam and start building your motivation to complete the task. When you start over-thinking you’ll lose motivation in yourself to get the work done and it could put you into a slump which you need to avoid.

Staying motivated is one of the hardest things people deal with on a regular basis and it’s something that I feel needs to be addressed. If you can’t stay motivated in your daily life then you’re going to have a lot of difficulty completing your goals. We’ll now look at five of the top ways you can remain motivated throughout your daily life so that you can complete your goals.

Motivate yourself daily

If you want to remain motivated for the long-term then you need to be able to be motivated everyday. You will need to renew your motivation each and every day in order to make your motivation last, because we all now that motivation doesn’t last. You’ve probably been motivated on occasions and then it’s gone which is what happens to most people, the problem people have is staying motivated for the long-term.

Create a Vision

You need to have a vision of where you want to be in life and if you don’t then it will be hard to become motivated. For instance if you’re making $500 weekly then to have a vision of making $600 a week isn’t enough and you won’t be motivated to do that. You should make bigger visions like owning a home or making $50,000+ annually as this will help you keep motivated for the long-term until you reach your vision.

Get Emotional

Emotions are what drive all of us and if you put emotion into your motivation then you’ll be able to stay motivated longer. You need to fuel your motivation with raw emotions in order to make it last over the long-term so make sure you work on getting emotional for the right reasons.

Achieve Results

Work on your vision and goals constantly and as you progress through them make sure you reward yourself. Motivation can be strengthened by achieving results as most of you know. For instance if you want to make $1000 a week and you make $500 then once you start making $750 you’ll be really motivated to reach your final vision of $1000 weekly.

Ride the Wave

When your motivation is high you need to ride the wave and make it last as long as possible. Always renew your motivation when you need to, but when you’re on a high make sure you ride the wave as long as possible.

These are five great ways to remain motivated over the long-term and you should try implementing these tips into your daily life. Don’t spend time reflecting on the negatives and work on spending time renewing your motivation each and every day.
